The World Yoruba Union ("WYU", "we", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through worldyorubaunion.org and related services (together, the "Platform"), how we use it, and the choices you have.

Who we are

The World Yoruba Union is a global membership organization dedicated to preserving Yoruba heritage and connecting the Yoruba diaspora. Correspondence: info@worldyorubaunion.org.

Information we collect

Account information: name, email address, password (stored as a salted hash), and any profile details you choose to add (title, phone, location, profession, bio, skills, volunteer interests).
Membership data: chapter affiliation, membership tier, member number, issuance and expiration dates, and status history.
Content you submit: applications, event registrations, business listings, contact requests, and messages you send us.
Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, and log events required to operate the Platform securely.

How we use your information

To operate your membership, chapter affiliation, and digital membership card.
To communicate about your account, applications, events, and Union announcements.
To improve safety, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.
To meet legal obligations that apply to the Union.

Directory visibility

You control whether your profile appears in the member directory (public, members only, chapter only, or private). You can change this at any time from your account settings.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:

Union administrators and chapter leaders who need it to serve you.
Service providers that host, secure, and email on our behalf, under contract.
Authorities where required by law, subject to challenge where appropriate.

Retention

We retain member records for the duration of your membership and for a reasonable period afterwards to satisfy legal, accounting, and organizational obligations. You may request deletion of your account by contacting info@worldyorubaunion.org.

Security

We use industry-standard controls including transport encryption, row-level access policies, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure; please protect your account password and notify us of any suspected compromise.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. Contact info@worldyorubaunion.org to exercise these rights. We will respond within a reasonable time.

Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and secure the Platform. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Children

The Platform is not directed to children under 13. If we learn that we hold information about a child, we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Platform or by email. The current version identifier appears at the top of this page.
